College Rewards Flooring Learners
ONE of few colleges in the country that offer floorcovering training courses for both full time learners and apprentices, Accrington & Rossendale College (Accross), recently held its prestigious construction and technology awards ceremony at Accrington Town Hall.
The facilities at Across are claimed to be some of the best around. The college workshop is kitted out with the latest tools, equipment and materials.
The foundation for the success of the college is the strong relationships it has developed and maintained with a large number of employers, manufacturers, suppliers and distributors.
Across recently teamed up with Cormar Carpets, Heckmondwike, Janser and Quickstep for additional support which greatly benefits all of its learners on the college programme.
The flooring learners who received awards were: Daniel Halstead, Level 1 Learner of the Year; Peter Whittle, of Hyde Flooring, Level 2 Learner of the Year; and Matthew Taylor, of Hyde Flooring, Adult Learner of the Year.
The awards were sponsored by Ardex, Lee Floorstok and Wolff Tools as well as Sweeney Todd Blades.
Prizes included tools such as a cordless drill, a carpet fitting kit and a variety of subfloor preparation equipment.
Accross College currently delivers Diploma Level 2 in Floorcovering over two years, which consists of an Ascentis qualification as well as teaching a variety of functional skills. Apprentices also undertake courses on employer rights and responsibilities, personal learning and thinking skills as well as working towards their NVQ Level 2.
Apprentices need only attend college once a week as well as undertaking a small number of block weeks throughout the year.
Employers may be entitled to a free grant for these courses covering all or most of the costs.
