IDS Gains EMS Standard
IDS has been awarded ISO 14001, the standard for environmental management systems (EMS).
The company achieved the accreditation after 12 months of preparation and auditing of its 12 branches across the UK.
IDS was audited and awarded the certificate by BM Trada, a multi-sector certification body accredited by UKAS (UK Accreditation Service). ISO 14001 accreditation verifies that a business takes its environmental responsibilities seriously and has environmental management under control with processes to reduce and monitor energy consumption and waste disposal costs.
Says Paul Hyam, business controls manager at IDS responsible for ongoing compliance:
‘IDS has a dozen sites across the UK and gaining ISO 14001 has meant a lot of hard work and investment throughout the business. We take environmental matters seriously by continually monitoring and improving our performance. Over 80% of our products are already environmentally certified.’
Each IDS branch manager is responsible for reviewing site energy usage and waste disposal costs on a regular basis, with any issues and practices which may impact on the environment.
Each IDS site is also audited every 6-12 months by the regional director to ensure compliance.
