Instarmac Wins Second Gold
THE Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has given INSTARMAC the Gold Award for the second year, and commended its health & safety processes and continual improvement.
In 2013 RoSPA highlighted Instarmac’s ‘excellent health & safety management’. This year’s Gold Award recognises the new health & safety committee and investment in new racking systems to improve safety.
The health & safety committee, comprising volunteers from various departments, meets regularly to ensure the necessary time, funding and resources to handle and prevent any safety issues.
The company’s ‘near miss action programme’ identified that a lack of space in the production and warehousing area could potentially lead to accidents. This led to the investment in the new VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) racking system. This modern storage method allows for over 2000 tonnes of stock to be kept in a relatively smaller area, increasing productivity while boosting storage space by 50%.
Other measures include using external audit companies to aid achieving compliance with HSE guidance and regulations, examples being, noise monitoring, LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment) and WEL (Work Exposure Limits). www.instarmac.co.uk
