Matting plays an important role in keeping dirt away from other flooring in a building:
Coba Europe has added new needlepunch options to its established range of commercial entrance matting.
These have been introduced as ‘economy’ versions of Coba’s high performance PathMaster (Aluminium) and PathMaster Duo, reportedly without compromising on the key benefits of their established counterparts.
PathMaster NP (with aluminium scraping strips) and PathMaster Duo NP (comprising alternating dual fibre strips) both feature a solid surface to prevent debris falling through to the underside. They are supplied on flexible rolls for ease of manoeuvrability and transportation.
The rolls ‘butt’ together and can be installed in recessed wells or adhered to the floor surface with optional edging. Unlike traditional engineered aluminium systems, the PathMaster range can be cut to size and shape on site using a hand grinder or jigsaw for ease of installation, says Coba.
With a lower price point than standard PathMaster products, the needlepunch versions are designed for creating smart, effective entrance areas on a budget and are available in grey, anthracite and mixed grey/anthracite.
Floorwise says its Mat Barrier heavy-duty entrance matting collection will trap dirt and moisture at the door and ensure lasting performance.
Available in mat sizes from 40 x 60cm to 120 x 180cm, and in special order roll widths of 90cm and 120cm, it is designed to suit both large and small entrance areas, Mat Barrier is made from resilient polypropylene and has a vinyl backing to prevent water from seeping through. Suitable for heavy traffic entrances in buildings such as offices, schools, shopping centres and airports, the product is designed to prevent premature wear or damage.
In a range of six colours, including blue, red, terracotta, dark grey, beige and green, the matting is designed to blend in with most design schemes.
‘Mat Barrier is an entrance mat solution for all commercial projects thanks to its excellent dirt and moisture trapping capabilities,’ comments Richard Bailey, md, Floorwise. ‘With anti-slip backing, it can be loose-laid for convenience and to ensure lasting performance.’
If required, the matting can be permanently bonded to a dry, grease and dirt-free subfloor by using F544 Acrylic Flooring Adhesive from Floorwise. www.floorwise.co.uk
Forbo has extended its Nuway entrance flooring range. Nuway Grid, now available in 12mm and 17mm heights can be teamed up with a Coral textile entrance system.
The new rigid entrance mats are designed to deliver high performance and longevity in heavy traffic areas whilst offering maximum scope for colour co-ordination. Alongside its established Nuway Tuftiguard rigid engineered matting ranges with double-sided reversible format, Forbo now offers three single-sided, barrier mat designs, Nuway Grid, Nuway Connect and Nuway Cable.
Nuway entrance flooring is reportedly able to meet every budget and technical specification. The extended colours are also said to offer more opportunities for use with the Nuway range and Coral secondary textile matting and with other floor finishes leading away from entrance areas.
Heckmondwike FB claims that its stylish new carpet as part of a refurbishment in Bushey Country Club in Hertfordshire has helped attract a surge in wedding bookings and an increased uptake in golf membership.
Around 152sq m of Sticks & Stones fibre bonded entrance carpet was specified by in Charcoal to provide an attractive yet durable flooring solution for the busy club.
These hardwearing specialist carpet tiles were used throughout the golf changing rooms, lobby, members lounge and café because it is able to withstand the wear and tear caused by heavy footfall, spiked golf shoes and dirt brought in from the golf course. The company claims that the golf club will also benefit from the robust construction of fibre bonded carpet which will not ravel or fray and is said to offer excellent thermal and acoustic properties.
Heckmondwike says its FB carpets and carpet tiles, all manufactured at its base in West Yorkshire, are available with full technical support, as part of the service. The company is fully certified to ISO 14001.
Jaymart recently supplied its Street-Beater ribbed rubber/ aluminium entrance matting systems for installation at the prestigious Park Lane building in London’s upmarket Mayfair.
Also in Mayfair, Rolex’s top-notch Caulder Moore redesigned boutique at 28 Old Bond Street opted for the same type of entrance matting system.
Street-Beater is designed for use as either an indoor or an outdoor entrance matting and is available in either closed construction or in heelsafe open construction. An advantage to this system is said to be the availability of replacement fine ribbed rubber insert strips, should they be required.
Jaymart also supplied its aluminium based entrance matting systems to the London 2012 Olympics. www.jaymart.co.uk
Plastic Extruders reports that its Vynagrip anti-slip matting is being used by the Hollywood Bowl in Horwich, Bolton, to provide a slip resistant working surface to prevent technicians slipping on the concrete floor and a safe footing when climbing and dismounting the ladders.
The matting is reportedly laid along the back of the run of alleys where technicians access and service the machines which automatically return balls as well as collect, reset and reposition the pins.
Vynagrip matting was also used in the largest fish shop in Piraeus, the port of Athens, Greece. Fresh off the boats each day, large quantities of fish are delivered with packed ice, while over counter machines continually spray water to keep the fish wet. The shop’s tiled floor used to become very slippery with increased risk of slip and fall accidents. To solve this problem, Vynagrip matting was laid alongside the counters to create a safe and slip resistant surface. This matting is described as self-draining allowing its open grid format with a textured surface quickly and efficiently drains large amounts of water.
Vynagrip is an industrial grade, heavy duty matting made from two layers of non-porous, flexible PVC that are welded together to create extra strong joints.
Its deeply etched surface reportedly provides a high R11 slip resistance rating when tested to DIN 51130.
Its construction allows it to be easily cut on site and contour over rough or uneven floors. It is available in standard colours of red, blue or black with the additional option of Vynagrip Plus in black with yellow edge bands. The black version is manufactured from 100% post-industrial recycled material and is fully recyclable, making it a sustainable and environmentally-sensitive choice.
The matting is supplied in 5m or 10m rolls and widths of 60, 91 and 122cm. Individual 80 x 120cm or 100 x 150cm modules with yellow safety ramping to three sides are also available. www.vynagrip.com
Schlüter-Systems products were specified by Marks & Spencer in a nationwide programme to update their outlets. P Plunkett Tiling Contractors installed tiled walls and flooring in several M&S outlets up and down the country, including the large Kingston Retail Park store in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne where Schlüter-Dilex movement joints were installed throughout the sales floor, Schlüter-Rondec in customer toilets, along with finishing threshold strips from Schlüter-Schiene range.
David Baker of Plunkett Tiling explained the choice: ‘We have specified Schlüter products for many years for quality, easy installation and reliability. The M&S job in Newcastle had to be completed to a tight deadline.
‘Schlüter-Dilex movement joints offered secure protection for surfaces subjected to high mechanical stresses caused by continuous use and finishing threshold strips from the Schlüter-Schiene range provided attractive finish tiled surfaces and protect the outer edges of ceramic and natural stone floor coverings from mechanical impact.’
All profiles are installed at the same time as the tile covering and a wide variety in various material combinations are available, depending on the mechanical or chemical stresses that are expected on the covering.
Schlüter-Schiene threshold strips are designed to finish tiled surfaces and protect the outer edges of ceramic and natural stone floorcoverings from mechanical impact.
Schlüter-Rondec symmetrically rounded tile trim profiles are available in a wide variety of materials and finishes as a contrast or blend with finish and protect tiled outer wall corners and other edges, such as tile skirting. www.schluter.co.uk
