Climate Week Launch Planned For Ecobuild
THE former mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, will be one of the speakers at the conference at Ecobuild (March 4-6) at London ExCel.
Mr Livingstone, who served two terms as mayor of London, will participate in The Ecobuild Debate: do we have a blueprint for the resilient city of the future?
The session takes place on March 6 and will discuss the responses to The Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities Challenge as well as other plans for future resilience including The Mayoral Vision for London 2020 and PlaNYC 2030.
Alongside Ken Livingstone will be Herbert Girardet, co-founder, World Future Council; Peter Madden, chief executive, Future Cities Catapult; and Professor Ricky Burdett, professor of urban studies and director, LSE Cities, London School of Economics and Political Science
Lord Deben (John Gummer) will take part in another debate ‘Can democracy deliver sustainability?’ on March 4.
The session will explore whether or not a democratically elected UK government will ever introduce the tougher measures to ensure the 2050 carbon reduction target gets hit.
Other politicians speaking at the event include Owen Paterson, secretary of state for the environment, food and rural affairs; Richard Blakeway, deputy mayor for housing, land and property; and Ed Vaizey, parliamentary under secretary of state for culture, communications and creative industries.
Ecobuild will also host the official launch of this year’s Climate Week (March 3-9).
The campaign is endorsed by politicians and celebrities including the Prime Minister, David Cameron, Sir Paul McCartney, footballer Gary Neville and the chairman of the committee on climate change, Lord Deben.
The national launch will kick off a programme of over 3,000 events designed to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change and suggest solutions to combat the problem.
The launch will include the announcement of the winners of the Climate Week Awards for exemplary professional achievements in categories including:
Best business; best new product or technology; best education or campaign initiative; and most inspirational person.
