Harrogate Dusts Off The ‘House Full’ Sign

EXHIBITION space at the Flooring Show (Harrogate September 21-23) is filling fast and nearly all booked as the organisers report new enquiries coming through on a daily basis, with ‘a number of halls now full, or virtually full’.
Among the recent bookings are Bembe; Callavi; Ardex UK; Merryfield; Karpet King; Fair Packaging; Earthwerks; Ambassador Antalis Packaging; Carpet Gripper Direct; Serdim Hali; Tuplex; CPS Labels and Quick Step Academy with Master Weaver returning.
Significantly, all the Chinese companies which exhibited last year, have booked again in 2014 after profiting from the business opportunities and the Harrogate networking experience. Several new Chinese flooring companies have also reserved space.
n Seminar programme: Although the full details are still under wraps, the organisers have revealed that the seminars this year will focus on the key day-to-day issues affecting flooring retailers and contract and commercial flooring businesses.
One confirmed speaker is Yorkshireman Carl Hopkins, one of the small group of Channel 4’s ‘secret millionaires’. His presentation is on ‘10 ways to improve your company’ with specific relevance to flooring.
Returning is David Abbott, who will again talk about taking your business online. Another seminar presented by John Collinson, a leading energy consultant, will discuss ‘10 ways to make your business more energy efficient’, a session aimed at small retailers.
n Demo zones: Doubling up on this popular feature, the first demo zone will focus on subfloor and tools, and feature subjects such as moisture measurement and equipment; DPMs and fast track DPMs; repair mortars; plywood templating; joints and other repairs; smoothing compounds; specialist subfloor preparation, and much more.
The second demo zone will concentrate on floor finishes, and cover underlay installation; carpet stretch-fit installation including stairs and bullnose; carpet joins; domestic vinyl flooring; commercial resilient flooring installation; cap and cove including welding; luxury vinyl tile insulation, and a number of other topics.
n Feature area: Curtis Wool Direct will present a new feature area. Martin Curtis explains: ‘Most of the carpet tufters and weavers who attend the show will feature products made from our wool. We are here to support them all.
‘We will show manufacturers, retailers, interior designers, architects and other visitors exactly what wool is, how it is processed and why it is such an environmentally friendly product. We will explain why wool makes the best floorcoverings.’
The Curtis Wool presentation will include ENco, the environmental consultancy, and Haworth Scouring and Combing Companies, along with experienced wool traders.
n Visiting the show: Visitor registration is free, quick and easy on the show’s website, and it is open now. In addition, the site also has details of hotel rooms available to show visitors at excellent rates. A booking form is on the website with a load of other information about the event.
