Surface Solutions On Show

The 2014 Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre London (February 4-6) is designed for architects, interior designers and specifiers looking for innovative surface solutions for the built environment.
The exhibition attracts over 100 companies showcasing pioneering natural stone, wood, tiles, recyclable materials, metal, living materials, paint, illuminated surfaces and coatings that can be used as flooring, cladding, ceiling, wall coverings and more.
The event also features a programme of talks, seminars, live demonstrations and features all focused on innovation making the event a must visit for architects and designers.
Future Thinking is an area focusing on material innovation and creative ideas currently being developed by designers, architects and manufacturers.
The Trend Wall presented by Global Colour Research, Mix Publications will highlight future material and colour trends, making sure designers are one step ahead when looking for future key colours and materials.
Among the exhibitors is Fila, which will launch new solvent-free surface treatments. These include LEED-approved Fila MP90 Eco Plus, a sealant for internal and external polished and unpolished natural stone, as well as polished porcelain surfaces; Fila PW10, a solvent-free contaminate-blocker for professional treatment of absorbent materials, including stone and terracotta.
Both new products join Fila’s Green Line range of water-based, biodegradable products with very low VOC content. Applied after installation, MP90 Eco Plus is designed to protect against stains, without forming a film or altering natural surface colour.
The new GEV-Emicode EC1PLUS certified formula, said to be suitable for use on food contact areas, is claimed to cut application time by up to 80%. It is also reported to provide weather and anti-graffiti protection outdoors.
PW10 is designed to stop efflorescence salts, tannin and oxides from rising to the tile surface. The non-film forming treatment is applied to the back of tiles before installation, whilst allowing the material to breathe. It can be used internally and externally, on natural stone, granite, marble, agglomerates, terracotta and other absorbent materials.
Tensile adhesion testing by The Ceramics Centre in Bologna confirm the product’s suitability for application to the back of tiles without compromising the adhesion properties of adhesive and grout.
