Dear David, Further to our telephone conversation before Christmas, I am now writing to let you know that Kim and I have given some thought to the question of the bottom step to the hall staircase. We have decided (as indeed you were advising) that it would look best if we kept matters as they are, so that there is no rod where the stairs meet the hall floor. I would therefore be grateful if in due course you could refund the cost of one stair rod, which I calculate per your quotation of [amount]. I would also be grateful if you could remind me at what stage you consider I should be contacting you with a view to moving the carpet.
