Trim & Proper

Profiles, trims and accessories are for essential many flooring installations:

Atkinson & Kirby offers a comprehensive range of solid wood profiles, trims and accessories to match wooden floors and now also matching its LivLoc range of luxury click vinyl.
At its Lancashire factory, Atkinson & Kirby produces a range of profiles and trims that can be used to create a seamless finish enhancing the inherent beauty of wooden floors, as well as doorways, fire places and radiator pipe covers.
Available in various lengths and species, the profiles can be unfinished, pre-finished in UV Lacquer using state of the art finishing machinery, or finished by hand to match the colour of an individual floor.
Thanks to its own manufacturing facilities, the company can offer special bulk discounts on large orders, meaning customers receive high quality products at competitive prices. Staff are on hand to provide customers with help and advice to achieve professional results.
CAT Accessories offers Top End Trims. In its blurb, the company says: ‘Ab Fab! No, not madames Saunders and Lumley, aka Eddy and Patsy or the bri nylon attired, diminutive, island living, do gooders the Tracey Family from the 60’s, who also used the fab word (short for fabulous).
‘Fab in the CAT dictionary stands for Feline Aluminium Base, the company’s range of profiles for the residential and light commercial market.’
Customers can request a Fab point of sales display sample board showing all finishes available by contacting the CAT sales office.
The company’s 2014 catalogue, The Comprehensive CAT, adds more pages with newly developed floor trims and stair nosings, including additions to the established Kliks Spectrum range of formable profiles.
With the new developments CAT says its range is truly comprehensive. The company claims the UK’s largest range of brass and stainless steel stair nosings.
Gemini Adhesives has expanded its established range of capping and coving profiles to include skirtings and transition strips. These additions follow requests from flooring contractors across the UK and Ireland, who have been installing the company’s easy to fit, scuff resistant, stable, capping and cove system.
The new profiles carry Gemini’s adhesion and none shrinkage guarantee.
All compounds from Gemini are formulated in line with the company’s safer chemical content policy. Its self-declared environmental claims are reportedly consistent with the ISO 14021 standard which calls for only clear, accurate and substantiated information to be presented to customers (see website for details).
Gradus has published a white paper, which examines how flooring accessories in public buildings can prevent trips and falls.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reports that slip, trip and fall accidents are the most common hazard in public and commercial buildings and cause more than half of all reported injuries to the general public.
With an ageing population, it is therefore vital that building owners, specifiers and contractors specify and install fit-for-purpose flooring accessories to adhere to guidelines in Approved Documents M (ADM) and K (ADK) of The Building Regulations 2010, BS 8300:2009+A1:2010 and BS 9266:2013 in line with the Equality Act 2010.
The Gradus white paper is available to download from the company website. It is designed to give customers advice and guidance.
It discusses how stair edgings, floor trims and barrier matting can be utilised to improve public building inclusivity and accessibility.
Author of the white paper and Gradus technical director Keith Oakes comments:
‘Correctly specified flooring and accessories can play a vital role in helping to make public and commercial buildings safer and accommodate the needs of everyone, including the elderly and less able-bodied.
‘This white paper provides a useful guide to help customers when specifying flooring and accessories in a range of buildings, from retail outlets and shopping centres to libraries and hospitals.’
Kährs has added a collection handmade stairnose system to its accessories range.
Available in three formats, the new profiles are designed for improved installation and greater flexibility.

The company, which is known for its solution oriented products with functional designs, has introduced the Design-Elements range, designed to bring a ‘hint of glamour into the world of flooring installation’.
It features Küberit products decorated with coloured and clear Swarovski Elements to create eye catching highlights in interior decoration.
A selection of high-quality accessories made of aluminium and brass will reportedly ‘conquer the runway of daily grind’ and make it possible to create unusual interior designs. A combination of skirting boards of type 935 with Design-Elements and decorated heating tubes and door stoppers are sure to be an eye-catcher, says Küberit.

Standard finishes include polished brass, antique brass, satin brass, antique and antique bronze. Among the specialised finishes are chrome, brushed chrome, satin nickel and pewter. They come in two lengths 90cm and 270cm, which reportedly can be cut to fit any doorway.
All Euro cover strip finishes are offered in stairrod finishes to complement home interiors. The Euro cover strip is in addition to the company’s established Double Z, Single, Cover and Square profiles, all of which are said to provide a sturdy and secure join in any doorway.
T&R Floor Covering Distributors supplies a range of profiles and trims for standard two-delivery or next day by request. New products include Gradus XT stair edgings, designed to reduce slips, trips and falls, as well as a variety of standard metal and PVC stair trims, and floor profiles.
Offered with a choice of slip-resistant inserts for dry and wet interior conditions, Gradus XT features an extended insert which wraps around the leading edge of the nosing.
