Wood & laminate flooring are a big sector of the market:

Arboritec AB of Sweden is launching its wood floor finishes in the UK. The company says it creates the latest ‘technologically superior’ finishes to help flooring professionals get ‘phenomenal results’. The finishes are built around two principal elements: Nanotechnology and Ceramic Silica. Nanotechnology is designed to create materials at ultra-small nanoscale. This reportedly produces finishing systems that enhance penetration, adhesion, strength and scratch resistance.

Miracle oil is a two-component floor oil designed to cure extremely quickly and give an highly durable surface.

Atkinson & Kirby says its new Diamond Plus Vintage Collection offers a reclaimed style hardwood flooring to complement its array of unfinished and pre-finished ranges. Made from quality European Oak, Vintage Oak Biscuit and Vintage Oak Slate have been hand-scraped and cross-cut respectively to achieve the reclaimed look on a new board.

This collection is designed to give the aesthetic properties of reclaimed wood in conjunction with the durability and wear of a new hardwood floor. Both Vintage Biscuit and Slate are said to be suitable for installation over underfloor heating. With Vintage Oak Biscuit measuring 20(5)x290x2200mm and Slate 20(4)x190x1830mm, the wider boards reportedly allow for plenty of character on each individual plank, with the 2200mm and 1830mm lengths adding to the grandeur of this Vintage collection.

Bamboo Flooring Company supplies premium grade bamboo flooring and accessories at competitive prices. Due to a fibre rating higher than any hardwood, bamboo is considered one of the hardest natural materials available for flooring.

Better still, the strand woven bamboo is twice as hard as normal bamboo, and therefore twice as durable, the company claims.

It states that not only does it design beautiful flooring, but it also uses the established Uniclic click system to ensure seamless surfaces and enable the interlocking of the boards to be as firm as possible.

Bamboo is described as the most eco-friendly alternative to hardwood. Being a fast growing grass (not wood), it can be harvested every 3-5 years compared to 25 years for most woods.

For new and existing subfloors with residual moisture above 65%RH, there is Mapeproof 1K Turbo, a single component polyurethane surface damp proof membrane. It can receive a second coat or a primer and subsequently a levelling compound within one hour and will suppress moisture vapour release up to 97% RH, says Mapei.
