China Records Rocketing Demand For Carpet Tiles
THE demand for commercial carpet tiles in China is growing so fast that the sales volume will exceed that of Europe within Europe within three years. This is forecast in the ninth edition of the World Map of contract carpet tiles.
It notes, however, that the volume of contract carpet tile consumption in the UK, along with Eastern Europe, Germany and the Republic of Ireland, increased by a small amount last year. Nevertheless the region’s consumption level in 2015 will remain 14% below the financial crisis peak 2008 and the same level as 15 years ago.
Meanwhile, demand in the Americas and Asia Pacific is powering ahead. Other data from the World Map is that new office build is at a historic low in Europe and North America. The latter has benefited from a policy of carpet tile segmentation, growing demand in segments outside the core market.
With near dominance of carpet tile as the floor finish in new office build and refurbishment, enlightened European producers see market segmentation as offering new use opportunities, although faced with competition from vinyl, linoleum, LVT, axminster and tufted.
It advises clear marketing messages being developed for carpet tiles in each segment with benefits, including design, comfort and acoustics.
In carpet tile product styling, loop pile design tiles continue to grow thanks to investment in edge tufting technology such as Colorpoint and Infinity. In the UK, one in three contract carpet tile products will be in the form of multi-level design loop with cut pile (4%) having been sidelined.
Interface and Desso between them are reckoned to share over 50% of the European market.
Interface is forecast to continue as market leader in 2015. Desso is described as an aggressive player with a formidable product line and specialities such as Airmaster. The company’s volume market share has jumped from 17% in 2011 to a forecast 23% in 2015. Modulyss, with an improving design offer, is third in volume share.
The 2015 World Map (Contract Carpet Tiles) is now available and can now be ordered at a cost of £2500.
