Ardex UK productsare being used during refits of McDonalds restaurants in the UK. Before each refit Ardex DGR degreaser is used to clean existing wall and floor tiles. Any damaged tiles are removed and the areas patch repaired to level using Ardex Ardurapid A45 rapid hardening and drying internal repair mortar, reportedly enabling new tiles to be fixed 90 minutes after application, regardless of thickness.
To facilitate tile on tile application, Ardex P4 Primer is specified. Reported to dry in one hour, it enables early fixing of new tiles with X77 Microtec flexible floor & wall tile adhesive, said to have an open time of up to 60 minutes. This product is developed to fix heavier, larger tiles without slipping.
For floors, P4 Primer is specified prior to application of Microtec X78 S ultra rapid setting floor tile adhesive. This product is designed for solid bed fixing large format tiles and is claimed to give the benefits of a pourable adhesive without disadvantages (such as dripping), while enabling tiles to be walked on and grouted after
Ardex Flex FL rapid setting flexible grout with built-in admix was chosen to fill tile joints. In 32

Gerflor productswere selected for the Giant cycle store in Liverpool. The Design Agency, Whiteroom took inspiration from the Victorian warehouse where the store is housed. Gerflor Creation Driftwood planks, chosen for their textured appearance for front of house areas, have since been used in Giant stores in Cambridge, Bristol, Twickenham, Rutland and Bromley, each 500sq m.
The busy Giant stores required non-slip, oil resistant, hardwearing and easy to clean solutions. Whiteroom selected Tarasafe standard safety flooring (Storm) in back of house areas. Tarasafe’s dense construction and deep inlay of carborundum particles is said to provide permanent slip resistance, meeting HSE guidelines and offering a group T wear rating for heavy traffic. Sanosol, Gerflor’s patented fungicidal and anti- bacterial treatment, is incorporated.
Across main retail areas, Driftwood with its pure PVC wearlayer was installed in 18.4cm x 121.9cm planks. The product features bevelled edges, realistic wood effect design and embossed grained finish. It is also reportedly antistatic, flexible, warm underfoot, resistant to indentation and an abrasion group T rating. It has PUR (polyurethane) surface treatment.
As a backdrop to the main sales area, Dark Slate from Creation Mineral range is used as wall cladding. This is a 30.5cm x 61cm tile comprises a 2.4mm thick homogeneous wearlayer and a textured surface.
In areas where bikes are stored on the upper floors of the stores Taralay Initial Comfort Strada Ardoise range was laid. The foam-backed vinyl covering is said to suit medium to high traffic applications. The range includes installation guidelines and has acoustic properties said to reduce noise impact by up to 19dB. It features Protecsol, a polyurethane surface treatment, and Sanosol.
Itec Contract Floors supplied 250sq m of Penta commercial rated sheet vinyl flooring in Matai 698 for the houseplant department of Syon Park Garden Centre. The 40 x 40cm slate tile effect product with its R10 durable and slip resistant surface was selected by contractor Trevor Wharton Carpets.
The Class 33 wear Penta ticked all the right boxes, says Trevor Wharton who installed the 2m wide flooring with a specialist system directly onto flagstones. It was hot welded at the seams to provide an impervious surface. With only four days from selection

Karndean Designflooring is partnering magnetised flooring technology specialist Iobac to offer magnetised vinyl tiles to facilitate installation flexibility.
Suited to retail environments, Iobac system is described as a fast, efficient and sustainable way to install a new floor or replace an existing one. A metallised floor surface is first laid before your chosen magnetised Karndean tiles are dry laid on top.
Because the system works by magnetic field, with no need for traditional adhesives, the installation process is said to be much simpler and quicker with minimal disruption.
With flexibility as key, some or all of the flooring design can be changed as regularly as needed, to reflect a new promotion, change in season or to refresh an overall scheme.

Ultra Floor (partofthe Instarmac Group) subfloor preparation products were used for refurbishing the Laura Ashley store in Stafford before the installation of a new decorative floor by Stafford Tiles and Flooring Solutions.
To prepare the surface, the contractor used Prime IT AR, an acrylic polymer emulsion primer suited for use over porous substrates such as concrete and sand/cement screeds. It was used to enhance adhesion and sealing before levelling with Ultra Floor Level IT two.
A traditional two-part powder and liquid system with no need to add water, Level IT two is designed for levelling uneven internal substrates before installing the coverings. The product is claimed to combine excellent flow characteristics with strong adhesion properties through the inclusion of a synthetic latex liquid component for increased flexural capacity, said to ensure compatibility with timber substrates.
The product is free from ammonia, creating a very low odour material suitable for confined areas as well as open. It is also designed to compensate for shrinkage, is polymer modified and protein-free.
